Audi TT S Line Buyer's guide review

Audi AG, a renowned German automobile manufacturer is known for its luxury vehicles, innovative technology, and distinctive design. Originally named "Horch Automobil-Werke GmbH," it was rebranded as Audi, derived from the Latin translation of Horch, meaning "listen." Audi TT S-Line is also known as the Baby R8 car because it is similar to the smaller model of the Audi R8 flagship car. Both cars look the same, but they are different in component-wise. There are two body shapes of the Audi TT namely; the non-convertible coupe and the roadster which means convertible. As a High-End sports car, the vehicle generally competes with the BMW z4, the Mercedes SLC, and the Porsche Boxster. To enhance the performance and handling of sports cars, they make the suspensions stiff. But there are no compromises regarding the comfort of the Audi TT. Having good fuel economy, good engine power, and comfort, the car is perfect for daily driving, compared to other sports cars. Today, we delve into the only roadster, which means the only convertible Audi TT S-Line car in Sri Lanka encapsulating European styling and comfort.

The hydraulics holds the engine hood up, no jacks are required. The Audi TT S-Line has a 2-liter, inline 4-cylinder turbocharged engine, as a dual overhead cam 16 valve engine. It generates a power of 220 horsepower at 4500 rpm and a maximum low-end torque of 350 Nm at 1500 rpm. The car has a low-end torque and therefore there is no need to accelerate a lot to acquire the maximum power and torque. It enhances the easiness of the driving. The Roadster has a Six-speed automated sequential transmission, with a manual mode included.

Looking at the exterior components of the Audi TT, it come with an attractive exterior design. There are many stylish bits and pieces all over with the actual and main air vents. Coming to the boot space, it is considerably small. Since the TT is a two-door convertible sports car, there can't be much space for the boot because the boot has to keep the roof when it is folded away. But with the roof out, there is a good space available with a high boot lip. The Roadster is not a car for transport loads or long trips, but it is suited for road trips. Therefore, the boot space is not a considerable issue. Inside the boot, there are two tethering points to fix the goods. When the boot floor is lifted, there is the tire repair kit and the battery of the car.

Although the Audi TT is a small car with two seats, there is plenty of space inside it. The space is good for keeping the legs perfectly comfortable. Breaking down from the right side, the mirror controls and the shutter controls are located on the driver’s door. As the car has a central locking system, the lock button is only available for the driver to do all lock and unlock options of both doors. Although the AC controls are on hard buttons, the AC vents could be easily controlled. There are five AC vents available. The fan speed, the temperature, and the direction could be adjusted. With the help of the AC controls, the rear mist can be also cleared out. There are the headlight controls to the right from the steering wheel. In many cars, the driving information is indicated by the gauge cluster while an infotainment screen comes separately. But in Audi TT, all of them were built inside the gauge cluster. Radio controls, the map, rpm gauges, fuel gauges, temperature gauges, and the speedometer, all are contained within the gauge cluster. The passenger has no access to them. Either buttons or the controls in the center console can be used to control the gauge cluster and the infotainment screen.

The typical European layout could be seen in the Audi TT as well. The signal light and headlight controls are on the left side of the steering wheel, while the wiper controls are on the right side. As the car has a manual mode with an automated sequential gearbox, there are pedal shifters. There are spoiler controls to set its position manually. The double signal button can be seen along with the traction control button and the auto-start on/off button. There is the drive selection button in a whole different font than other buttons. There are several driving modes namely, efficiency, comfort, auto, dynamic, and individual. When the mode is changed from auto to dynamic, the exhaust note is completely changed. There is a physical knob as the volume control, along with the other playback control buttons. There is an elegant gear selector with park, neutral, reverse, and drive modes. The touch-sensitive knob has the infotainment controls such as menu and back buttons. There is the hand brake, which is also known as the parking brake, as well as the rooftop control buttons.

The glove compartment is not spacious as the TT is a compact sports car. Door bins are also small, a 500 ml bottle might fit for that. There are two USB inputs and one AUX input to charge two phones at the same time. There is a cup holder in the middle. Although there is some space between and behind the seats there is no armrest. The Audi TT gives a comfortable driving experience without specific throttle or braking techniques. The steering wheel has a direct input method. The front visibility is perfect and practical with the side mirrors. The seats support visibility by giving the option to adjust their height. But the rear view is distractive as there is no rear glass, only a mirror. With the powerful engine, the car takes a big leap forward even if the accelerator is hardly pushed. The soft brakes have the brake hold option. With the small wheelbase of the car, the turning radius does not matter.

The overall conclusion about the Audi TT is, compared to other sports cars it has a good fuel consumption.
